Our History
The Company was established by Paul Mundy in 1970, in the days when the world was just opening up to the power and reach of the Jumbo jet. It was a very different industry then, though : cruising in those days was still focused on simply getting to a destination rather than, as we know it now, the many pleasures of the journey itself.
It was arguably Boeing’s 747 that in fact changed the cruise experience. The advent of cheap mass air travel offered a quicker and cheaper way to travel long distances, and it signalled the end of the days of the ‘line voyage’, and, some predicted, of cruising itself. At this inauspicious time, Paul Mundy had the vision (or the perversity) to set up the country’s first cruise-only travel agency, and for many years Mundy Cruising was the only expert in its (admittedly small) field. His hard work and passionate belief in the pleasures of cruising paid off though, as the world-wide leisure cruise market mushroomed in the 80s and 90s, (and indeed, it continues to expand).
The very nature of Mundy’s service (concentrating on the personal and tailored) meant that early on the Company established a leading reputation at the luxury end of the market, and this is what it still enjoys. Mundy Cruising is pre-eminent in its field, with a reputation and a level of experience and expertise that is simply un-matched by its competitors.
