What's new in the world of Mundy Cruising

Enclosed is your copy of the September 2009 ‘Cruise News’ from Mundy Cruising - the leading UK specialist in international, quality cruising, tailor-making luxury holidays to suit the needs of the discerning customer. Of the comprehensive travel destination features, ship reports, industry news columns and comment from Mundy’s knowledgeable Managing Director Edwina Lonsdale, content highlights this month include:

** TAKE TEN YEARS (Cruise News page 2):

This Summer has seen celebrations to mark the 10th Anniversary of Edwina and Matthew Lonsdale’s purchase of Mundy Cruising, following their successful management buyout in July 1999 (from Paul Mundy).

In this ever-changing world, the past ten years have seen the mood of the marketplace change from a very positive one in the early part of the decade, to the more turbulent times affected by the tragic world-wide events of 9/11, SARS, the start of the Gulf War and the bursting of the dot com bubble.

Choosing to specialise mainly in offering an excellent cruise experience, delivered on board the smaller, more intimate cruise ships (thought not exclusively), combined with providing service and understanding clients’ personal needs, Mundy remains committed to its original philosophy of working to traditional values.

This ethos has now been publicly recognised by Mundy Cruising receiving an Investors in People Accreditation. Says Edwina Lonsdale: “I would like to take the opportunity to thank and salute our staff for all their hard work and our clients for their loyalty and support”.

** NO HASSLE CRUISING (Cruise News page 4):

Although the Mundy Carte Blanche service is able to ease the stresses of the airport experience with its Private Luggage Delivery arrangements, another option to ensure avoiding flight travel hassles, is to consider ex UK cruising.  From UK ports, deal destinations easily accessible on shorter two or three week voyages include the Canaries, Mediterranean, Baltic, Norway and Iceland.

A range of ships will be sailing ex UK in 2010, ranging from the contemporary Royal Caribbean Independence of the Seas out of Southampton and Celebrity’s Eclipse, to NCL’s Norwegian Sun to the Baltic, or Cunard and Fred Olsen offering a range of departures.

** CHRISTMAS IS COMING! (Cruise News page 5)

Helping with travel planning for Christmas and New Year, Mundy has researched current availability – a cruise is a perfect holiday choice for escaping the hustle and bustle of this time of year.

To stay closer to home, cruises to the Canaries, or Mediterranean are on offer by Cunard’s Queen Victoria from £3,710 per person for balcony accommodation; and Silver Spirit’s Maiden Voyage has a few suites remaining from £4,080 per person.

Alternative options: to the Caribbean – the majestic Queen Mary 2 has space on her 16-night Christmas and New Year voyage, from £2,868 per person; or further afield, Oceania’s Nautica sails to the Far East; or Island Sky sails across the Bay of Benegal to Thailand with fares from £4,495 per person.

** ICELAND – DESTINATION FOCUS (Cruise News page 10/11)

Cruise ships do call at this “Land of Ice and Fire”, however, this extraordinary island is perfectly accessible even for a long weekend break – only two hours flying time from London, or ferry travel another option.

As well as the stunning scenery and the many attractions and contrasts of the capital city Reykjavik, visitors will be captivated by the appealing Icelandic people.

Volcanoes and glaziers make a dramatic landscape; and Summers can be surprisingly mild and the air so clear and lacking pollution. As well within the Arctic circle, tourists can see the Midnight Sun through the night during Summer months.
