NEW FOR 2009
** Exploring Europe by Rail (Cruise News page 4):
Next year Mundy Cruising is offering an alternative way to explore Europe – combining planes, trains, and ships. The ‘Danube Express’ is a luxury hotel ‘on wheels’. Mundy has created two exciting holiday options in 2009, combining the very best in cruising with a unique journey on the Danube Express.
The two journeys are:
Athens to Budapest, departing September 5, 2009:
12 nights from £4,975 per person
Silver Whisper and the Danube Express
A 7-night Greek Islands cruise from Athens to Istanbul aboard Silver Whisper; an overnight hotel stay at the Sofitel in Istanbul, transferring to The Transylvanian, a 3-night journey on board the Danube Express to Budapest; one night in Budapest before the return flight.
Budapest to Venice, departing September 10, 2009:
16 nights from £4,555 per person
Crystal Serenity and the Danube Express
Flight to Budapest, with an overnight hotel stay; from there a transfer to the Bosphorus Voyager for a 2-night journey on board the Danube Express to Istanbul via Novi Sad and Sofia. After spending one night in Istanbul, passengers join Crystal Serenity for a 12-night cruise to Venice, staying there overnight before flying home.
** French Chic (Cruise News page 6):
The intimate vessels Le Levant and Le Ponant carrying respectively just 90 and 64 passengers, are ideal for hosting house parties as well as individual travellers and in 2009 are offering magical itineraries to inspiring destinations, including Venezuela and the Seychelles.
Cruise-only fares lead in at £1809…..per person for 7……nights aboard Le Levant……sailing in March…to the Caribbean….
And the exciting news is that 2010 will see the addition to the fleet of two new and larger ships. Attracting a more international passenger mix, these have been named as Boreal and Austral after the Northern and Southern lights – a reflection of the proposed, ‘off-the-beaten track’ itineraries for the two vessels.
Each vessel at 10,600 GRT will carry up to 264 passengers. As expedition-style vessels they will feature a full cinema style theatre to accommodate all guests and on-board naturalists and guest lecturers. The first ship will sail to the regions of Antarctica, South America, the Mediterranean, the Baltic, Greenland, the Great Lakes, the Caribbean and Amazon; the second to South East Asia, Japan, Mediterranean, Persian Gulf and India.
CARTE BLANCHE AND THE SOLO TRAVELLER (Cruise News page 8):
When Mundy first launched the Carte Blanche concept to the marketplace, Edwina Lonsdale had not appreciated quite how popular this programme would prove to solo cruisers. Many clients who travel alone benefit from the private luggage facility in particular, sending their luggage ahead, allowing for a worry-free journey – no hauling of those cases of the carousel after an exhausting flight.
An awkward time can also be following an overnight stay, on the morning of embarkation – feeling possibly tired and a little vulnerable, with not too much time, organising in advance, through Mundy Carte Blanche, an escorted sight-seeing tour, with refreshments and transfer to the ship provides the perfect solution.
THOSE GREEN FINGERS (Cruise News pages 14/15):
And now for those looking to choose a very special holiday in 2009, Mundy, together with cruise line partner Fred. Olsen, is offering an exclusive 14-night holiday, ideal for all garden lovers, ‘The Beautiful Gardens of the Atlantic Coast’. This fascinating Gardening Experience will be hosted by expert guide and lecturer, the award-winning Anthea Guthrie.
The cruise will include some special garden related shore excursions, as well as a series of informative talks by Anthea. The Braemar sails from and returns to Dover, departing the UK on July 18, 2009, and call at Lisbon, Cadiz, Las Palmas, Santa Cruz, Funchal and Leixoes (Oporto).
Cruise-only fares, for 14-nights, from £810 per person, based on twin/double accommodation.
