January 2008 ‘Cruise News’ from Mundy Cruising
Of the comprehensive travel destination features, ship reports, industry news columns and comment from Mundy’s knowledgeable Managing Director Edwina Lonsdale, content highlights this month include:
** Comment:
The Passenger Shipping Association released new figures in time for the ABTA Conference at the end of November ’07 indicating the continuing growth of of the UK cruise market, with an exciting outlook for 2008. One main reason being the increased capacity out of the UK. Some new ships to be launched include: P & O’s Ventura due in April; Royal Caribbean’s magnificent Independence of the Seas regularly departing Southampton and Balmoral, the latest addition to the Fred Olsen fleet.
** Norway (Cruise News page 10):
Following the ex UK theme, the destination report this month is on Norway, a perfect choice if you are looking for a no-flight departure. There really is nothing like sailing in Norwegian waters with a Norwegian Captain. The incredible coastline of Norway has been carved out by glacial activity, with endless sheer-sided fjords. Ships sail the length of these waterways at slow speed, while passengers gasp at the rocky precipices above.
One of the classic Norwegian voyages is referred to as the voyage to the Land of the Midnight Sun; or further north to within the Arctic Circle, with 24 hours of daylight during the height of Summer. An ideal time to travel there is between April and June.
** For the Green-Fingered Traveller (Cruise News pages 14/15):
Available exclusively through Mundy Cruising, Regent Seven Seas Cruises are offering a ‘Botanical Gardens of the Mediterranean’ voyage in June this year. Visiting some of the most beautiful ports in the Mediterranean, combining wonderful plant life and forestry with visiting interesting museums and architecture – romantic Venice and cultural Rome. The 7-night cruise is to be hosted by renowned gardening expert Anthea Guthrie, lecturing on board the deluxe Seven Seas Voyager, as well as accompanying Mundy passengers on two Mundy Carte Blanche private tours, visiting the botanical gardens of Naxos and Sorrento.
Gardening Cruise Experience:
Seven Seas Voyager, departing the UK on June 2, 2008 for 7 nights Venice to Monte Carlo
Fly-cruise fares from £2,880 per person
Highlights include: the Botanics of Sorrento
Mundy Exclusives include: Mundy Carte Blanche private tour of the Marquis Toscano Gardens
** I’d Never Go on a Cruise because (Cruise News page 13):
Mundy Cruising addresses some of the many misconceptions when considering to take a cruise holiday.
“I prefer to travel independently and explore different places, in Italy, for example.”
Answer: Cruising the Italian Riviera, on board a ship like motor-sail yacht Wind Surf you can stop somewhere different every day and see some really out of the way places, difficult to reach on a motoring holiday. Also there is the option to stay on at the end of the cruise at a hotel in Rome.
“I like to stay in lavish resort hotels.”
Answer: Cruising aboard Crystal Serenity, the spa is out of this world with exceptional treatment options a great gym, a range of dining options and outstanding service.
