June 2007 ‘Cruise News’ from Mundy Cruising

** UK Cruise Industry Grows by 12% in 2006:

More Brits than ever are taking to the seas, according to the Passenger Shipping Association (PSA), who has announced that 1.2 million Brits took an ocean cruise in 2006 – 12% more than the 1.07 million who cruised in 2005; and double the number who took cruise holidays just a decade ago. Cruises taken from a UK port also increased by 12% to over 450,000 Brits.

This year the PSA also conducted research into why people choose to cruise and what they look for when booking a holiday afloat. The most important factors for an enjoyable cruise are good food and drink (35%) followed by the itinerary (27%), standards of accommodation and then value for money and price. Good private and public facilities are also important, as is the range and quality of entertainment available on board.

** Following the success of the first show last year Mundy Cruising is returning to exhibit at the 2007 Luxury Travel Fair (London Olympia June 27-30); AND Mundy Managing Director Edwina Lonsdale has been invited to take part in the Holiday of a Lifetime Panel.

Working at the Luxury Travel Fair with their prestigious and complementary cruise line partners - Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Hebridean International Cruises, Peter Deilmann River Cruises and Windstar Cruises - the Mundy Cruising consultants are looking forward to inspiring visitors with their extensive knowledge of deluxe cruise holidays.

Any members of the media wishing to meet with Edwina Lonsdale at the Fair, please contact Jill Faulds in advance to make an appointment

** Introducing Windstar Cruises - page 5 of Cruise News refers

When it launched in late 1986, the 148-passenger Wind Star, with its towering sails, sleek lines and computerized controls, was revolutionary in concept and design. Windstar's ships are officially motor-sail-yachts (msy), however, the designation belies the vessels' unique rigging.

Unfurling in two minutes at the push of a button, billowing white sails reach to the sky. All functions are operated from the bridge by computer micro-chips and navigational devices. The unusual "open-bridge" operation allows guests to drop by and acquaint themselves with the veteran captains and officers who demonstrate the ships' intriguing capabilities to modern day explorers.

Wind Star is operating a NEW Croatia itinerary in 2008 – sailing from Dubrovnik to Venice, departing on June 29 for 7 nights – fares are £1,358 per person.

** And still on the subject of yachts…Savarona – page 15 of Cruise News refers

Mundy Cruisng has something very special to offer – the opportunity to sail on the largest, private, historic yacht in the world, Savarona. This classic yacht, built in 1931, has been extensively refurbished and now for the first time is operating a cruise programme – previously only available for charters.  This Summer, Savorana will sail on week-long voyages in Turkey between Bodrum and Antalaya. The season finishes with a return from Bodrum to Istanbul on September 22 - fares from £3,460 per person cruise only for one week.

** Destination Focus – Pole to Pole with Hurtigruten – page 10 of Cruise News refers

September this year will see MS Fram sailing from Reykjavik on a journey of a lifetime – the ship’s first ever voyage from Arctic to Antarctic. In 66 days, 17 countries and 44 ports will be visited. During the course of this remarkable odyssey numerous shore excursions and informative lectures will enhance the experience. Fares from £6,995 per person for inside cabins; and £10,395 per person for sea-view accommodation.
